2. Regarding noise: it’s definitely quieter, but not whisper quiet. Electric +1, Gas +0.
3. Regarding cost: at 12 AMPs, 110 volts, the max this thing could draw would be 1.32 kilowatts (that assumes 100% power factor and that it actually draws a full 12A). With electricity at $0.10-$0.12 per kilowatt hour, that means it should cost between $0.13 – $0.16 to run it for an HOUR. If you could still find gas for $3.00 a gallon, you’d need to get 19 hours of runtime out of a gallon in your gas mower to equal that cost. Electric +1, Gas +0.
4. Regarding cord: a pain, but not the end of the world. For large lawns, gas wins. Electric +0, Gas +1.
5. Regarding maintenance: I can turn my mower over to remove and sharpen the blade. That’s the extent of necessary maintenance. Gas mowers = winterization, mixing or changing oil, care required to remove blade, spark plug gapping or replacement. Electric +1, Gas +0.
6. Regarding smell: when I finish mowing I smell like grass, not gas fumes. Saves me a shower. There’s also no gas in my garage. Electric +1, Gas +0.

8. Regarding saving the environment: it’s hard to know the impact $0.16 of electricity has on the environment, but I’d be willing to be it’s infinitesimally small. I can smell the impact of a gas mower with my own nose. Bottom line though, I don’t really care. The other advantages are clear enough. Electric +0, Gas +0.
9. Regarding mowing swath: 19 inches is smaller than 22. If your time is money, and you get paid for working extra hours at your job (I don’t) then gas wins. If an extra 5 minutes a week don’t bother you because mowing your lawn isn’t a loud and smelly affair anymore, electric wins. Call it a draw. Electric +0, Gas +0.
Final tally:
Electric 6, Gas 2.I’ve mowed thrice this spring and if I cut my grass two low I have to slow down a bit. Cord management gets easier every time I mow. I LOVE not having to shower when I’m done mowing. Flipping my mower upside down to spray with cooking spray before the first run was simple and has kept grass from clogging things up. I also love it that if I need to move something or pause for a minute I can drop the handle and the mower stops–and starts immediately when I get back to it. No need to leave it running or crank a string to restart it.
My biggest gripe here is the size of the clippings bag: it’s not very big, so it needs to be emptied frequently. Mulching isn’t really a solution as that is hindered by the lower power of the mower.
